Each vent connection is equipped with a pair of valve (18,19). A housing seal is arranged between two housing portions (7.1,7.2) of the housing. A pressure-dependent opening and/or closing valve is connected with the surroundings or the balancing volume of the housing. A catalytic recombination device (20) is arranged in the housing for converting the water by oxygen and hydrogen. An independent claim is included for a method for shutdown of a fuel cell system.
