PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: peptides that inhibit the enzymatic activity of tyrosinase; formulations and methods for their use in reduction of skin pigmentation; and methods of administering the inhibitory peptides in topical formulations.SOLUTION: The invention relates to peptide sequences including KFEKKFEK and YRSRKYSSWY. The invention also relates to dermatologically acceptable formulations containing the peptides. The invention further relates to methods for treating skin including administering the peptide, where the administration of the peptide sufficiently inhibits tyrosinase for lightened skin pigmentation.
