A method for manufacturing a sterilizable pouch (1) includes forming a peel-away cover strip (7) by heat sealing an outer gas permeable membrane (25) to an inner thermoplastics layer (26). The cover strip (7) is overlapped and heat sealed to a front thermoplastics panel (3). A rear thermoplastics panel (2) is laid over the front panel (3) and cover strip (7) and heat sealed thereto.
