[Class 100 (ii)] In a single-stage multicolour printing-machine employing a printing-surface containing dyes &c. which become soluble when wetted, e.g. by the material being printed, the impression roller, pad, &c.. is made of rubber or other resilient material and contains a fluid, the extent of deformation of the impression surface being controlled to vary the time of contact of the printing-surface with the material and hence the intensity of the print. As applied to a rotary machine, an impression roller c, Fig. 1 consists of a cylindrical rubber bag containing water. The roller is mounted in a lever a pivoted at e, the pressure against a printing- roller a being varied by adjusting a weight j. In Fig. 2, rollers c are mounted in a carriage g reciprocated manually over a flat printing- surface f, pressure being applied by weights placed on rods i. |
