Disclosed are a server apparatus capable of virtually substituting for a physical storage device which is removed from a user terminal in which only an arithmetic unit and peripheral equipment are installed and inputting/outputting data at a high rate, and a method of providing service of replacing storage device in the server apparatus.The server apparatus according to the present invention comprises a storage means for storing a master image about a partition in which an operating system and an application program are installed, and derived and booting images generated from the master image; a remote booting module for assigning an IP address to a user terminal accessing to a network and for transmitting the booting image to the user terminal; an image generating module for generating the derived image corresponding to the user terminal from the master image; an image transmitting module for transmitting the master or derived image to the user terminal through the network; and an image management module for receiving a working result of the mast or derived image by the user terminal to reflect the working result on the master or derived image stored in the storage means.
