The mechanism has a drive spring armed to drive a hammer (4) against a gong (100). A striking rack (6) is mounted to move in rotation, and comprises hammer drive teeth to generate a strike of the hammer against the gong. A feeler (18) is mounted with the rack in a coaxial way, and rotates the rack. A striking control cam with an outer profile includes jumps (21-24) provided at successive angular positions of the cam. The cam cooperates with the feeler such that each of the jumps corresponds to a passage of a tooth of the rack by a corresponding tooth of the hammer.
