In the present invention, there is disclosed an apparatus for opening and closing a lid pivotally connected to a frame, especially a car boot (22) lid (23), including a strut (26) arranged between the lid (23) and the frame (24) with a first linking part (2) attached to the lid (23) and a second linking part (3) attached to the frame (24), wherein both the linking parts (2, 3) are forcibly relatively movable through the mediation of a mechanical and/or pneumatic and/or hydraulic actuator to achieve a change in the strut (26) length. The invention is characterized in that the strut (26) is provided with a disengaging device (4, 6a through 6d) for disabling the constrained relative motion of the first linking part (2) and the second linking part (3) of the relatively movable linking parts of the strut (26).
