[Class 138 (ii)] [Also in Groups II and XXXII] In a clothes washing and drying machine a tub 20 contains a cylinder 21 mounted for rotation on a substantially horizontal axis, the tub is supported from a frame by a plurality of resilient means 16, 18 and vibrations are damped by coacting means 30, 31 interposed between the frame and tub which are capable of building up to a definite resistance to movement and are positioned to apply damping force in both horizontal and vertical directions substantially through the axis of rotation of the cylinder. The resilient means comprises four springs, two of which, 16 and 18, are shown. These springs are arranged at small angles to the vertical in both front and side views. Hydraulic dampers (see Group XXXII) 30, 31 are connected to the bottom of the tub and to the casing of the machine. These dampers are arranged so that lines passing through their longitudinal axis pass through the probable centre of weight of the clothes receptacle when it has a load of clothing. A driving motor 25 and two-speed gear-box 26 are attached to the base of the tub 20 and to balance these and to make the axis of rotation of the clothes receptacle substantially coincide with the centre of weight, weights 35, 36 are mounted on top of the tub.
