PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water heater that prevents an ear-offensive sound from being generated at the start of a hot water supply operation. SOLUTION: The water heater includes a hot water supply control section 41 which starts the hot water supply operation for performing at least one of control over a heating quantity by a burner 2 and control over an opening extent of a bypass pipe 25 by a bypass servo valve 26 so that a detection temperature of a hot water supply temperature sensor 27 reaches a set temperature when a detected flow rate of a water amount sensor 23 reaches or exceeds a hot water supply start flow rate and then stops the hot water supply operation when the detected flow rate of the water amount sensor 23 falls below a hot water supply stop flow rate. The water heater also includes a bypass control inhibition part 42 which keeps the bypass pipe 25 closed until a bypass inhibition period passes since the start of the hot water supply operation if the elapsed time from the stop time of the last hot water supply operation is equal to or longer than a low-temperature start determination time at the start of the hot water supply operation by the hot water supply control section 41.
