Disclosed are methods and systems for using tension feedback from steerable deflectors 60 to adjust vessel turn time. In one aspect, a maximum tension for a deflector towed from a survey vessel may be determined. A radius r of a turn of the vessel at a preselected speed is further selected such that the tension on the deflector is less than the maximum tension. The vessel is turned while moving at the preselected speed, wherein the turning of the vessel has the selected radius. Tension is then measured on the deflector during the step of turning the vessel. Another aspect relates to reducing the vessel turn-time and adjusting an angle of attack of the towed deflectors as the vessel heads into the turn. Yet another aspect relates to a marine geophysical survey system comprising tension measurement systems and a control system configured to adjust the angle of attack, vessel speed or turn radius.
|
