PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery in which a substance derived from charge carriers is suppressed from being precipitated by forming a coating of a more favorable aspect on the surface of a negative electrode active material.SOLUTION: A nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery of the present invention includes a positive electrode 64, a negative electrode 84 and a separator base material 94. A coating containing at least boron (B) and sodium (Na) is formed on the surface of a negative electrode active material. A heat resistant layer 96 containing inorganic fillers is disposed between the negative electrode and the separator base material. The water contact angle &sgr;h at a surface part of the heat resistant layer facing the negative electrode and the water contact angle &sgr;s at a surface part of the separator base material facing the positive electrode satisfy the following conditions: (1) 10°≤&sgr;h≤80°; (2) 90°≤&sgr;s≤120°; and (3) (&sgr;s-&sgr;h)≥25°.
