COLOR FILTER AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME, AND DISPLAY DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color filter and a method for manufacturing the color filter which prevents formation of a cavity or chipping in a black matrix and which is suitable for high-definition display.SOLUTION: A color filter 10 is obtained by forming a black matrix 2 preferably having a line width of 1 to 7 μm in a profile described below from a positive resin resist by a proximity exposure method on a transparent substrate 1, and then forming a colored layer 3 in an opening A of the black matrix, preferably from a positive resin resist into a similar profile. In the profile of the black matrix, a point with a half value height Th of the maximum height Tmax of a maximum point Qmax is defined as a medium point Qh and a part most outwardly protruding in a plane direction is defined as an end start point Qe; and the profile satisfies such conditions that: (1) a tapered angle &thetas; of the medium point Qh is 50 to 90°; (2) the black matrix is continuously in contact with the transparent substrate surface from one end start point Qe to the other end start point; and (3) an overhang B is not present from the end start point Qe to the maximum point Qmax. It is preferable that the colored layer is also formed into the similar shape from viewpoints of high definition and high color purity. The display device includes the color filter.
