PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which properly protects a load in an image forming apparatus, and a control method thereof.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises: a timing roller 39 for conveying a sheet in the image forming apparatus; a motor MB 1 receiving electric power supplied from a power source 100 to drive the timing roller 39; motors MA 1 and MA 6 which received electric power supplied from the power source 100; a sensor SR8 for detecting paper jam in the conveyance roller 39; a drive relay 101 which shuts off power supplied from the power source 100 to a plurality of loads when the paper jam is detected; and a control circuit 111 which controls operation state of the motors MA 1 and MA 6 so that regenerative electric power generated in the motor MB 1 by the rotating conveyance roller 39 is supplied to the motors MA 1 and MA 6 when the paper jam is detected.
