The system has a eccentric cam (6) including first portion (61) for retaining linear machine elements e.g. toothed racks (2), and linear guide, in a machine bed (4). Second portion (63) formed in eccentric relation to the first portion, and engages with an aperture (21) of the linear machine element. A clamping element is adapted for bracing the eccentric cam in the machine bed. The clamping element includes a thread for engagement with a threaded opening of the machine bed. The cam includes a flange, which is arranged on the second portion opposite to the first portion. An independent claim is also included for a method for fastening a linear machine element in a machine bed.
