PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat pump water heater capable of reducing usage of a refrigerant. ! SOLUTION: A heat pump water heater includes a heat pump cycle composed of a compressor 1, a radiator 2, an expanding mechanism 3 and an evaporator 4, and a hot water storage tank 6, the radiator 2 is spirally disposed at an outer periphery of the hot water storage tank 6, and the radiator 2 is composed of a region where a plurality of pipes (7a, 7b) are branched in parallel, and a region composed of pipes 7c of the number less than those in the former region. As an internal volume of a region of low refrigerant concentration is determined to be more than an internal volume of a refrigerant pipe of a region of high refrigerant concentration, in the refrigerant pipe 7 as the radiator 2 of the heat pump cycle spirally disposed at the outer periphery of the hot water storage tank 6, usage of the refrigerant can be reduced in the region of high refrigerant concentration. !
