PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element whose characteristics do not deteriorate even when temperature varies.SOLUTION: An optical modulator (optical element) 1 is an optical modulator capable of combining lightwaves by using a spatial optical system, and includes a housing part 12, a substrate 11, a combining part 20, and a collimator part 30. The housing part 12 is formed such that a box 12a and a lid 12b are joined together, and contains a housing space X. The substrate 11 is provided inside the housing space X and emits at least two lightwaves. The combining part 20 is provided outside the housing space X and combines the lightwaves emitted from the substrate 11 to the outside of the housing part 12 by using the spatial optical system. The collimator part 30 is connected to the housing part 12 and also holds the combining part 20, and has a condensing lens 33 for condensing the lightwaves combined by the combining part 20 and an optical fiber 3 into which the lightwaves condensed by the condensing lens 33 are introduced. |
