PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic light emitting device having good light emitting characteristics and causing no crack and peeling in a layer in contact with an electrode of a hole injection layer or the like, and a method for manufacturing the organic light emitting device.SOLUTION: An organic light emitting device 1 comprises a display region 11 where an organic light emitting element 20 is disposed on a substrate 10. The organic light emitting element 20 comprises: a first electrode 21 provided on the substrate 10; a hole injection layer 22 provided on the first electrode 21; an organic compound layer 30 provided on the hole injection layer 22 and including a light emitting layer; and a second electrode 26 provided on the organic compound layer 30. The hole injection layer 22 is a layer including an organic compound having an electron-withdrawing substituent, and at least one layer of layers included in the organic compound layer 30 coats an end of the hole injection layer 22 provided outside the display region 11.
