PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mercury removal system having high mercury removal performance and capable of reducing an operation cost, and to provide a mercury removal method from high-temperature exhaust gas containing mercury.SOLUTION: A mercury removal system for removing NOx and Hg included in high-temperature exhaust gas 12 from a boiler 11 includes: an NHCl supply unit 15A that sprays an NHCl solution 14 into a gas flue 13 of the boiler 11; a reduction denitrification device 16 that includes a denitrification catalyst which reduces NOx in the high-temperature exhaust gas 12 with NHand oxidizes Hg under coexistence of HCl; and a wet desulfurizer 20 that removes Hg oxidized in the reduction denitrification device 16 with a lime gypsum slurry 19.
