PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which identifies whether a failure has occurred in pressure detection means or a pressure variable mechanism.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus 100 includes: a fixing film 11; a pressure roller 12; a pressure variable cam 13, a pressure plate 14, and a pressure spring 10 for selecting a state of the fixing film 11 and the pressure roller 12 between a pressure-applied state and a pressure-released state; a pressure detection sensor 4 which detects the pressure-applied state or the pressure-released state; a fixing motor 6 for driving the pressure variable cam 13, the pressure plate 14 and the pressure spring 10; an environmental temperature detection sensor 51 which detects an environmental temperature in a device body 100A; a thermistor 5 which detects surface temperature of a heater 7; and a controller 50 which determines that any of "the pressure detection sensor 4", and "the pressure variable cam 13, the pressure plate 14, and the pressure spring 10" fails depending on whether the time required for increasing the temperature of the heater 7 to a predetermined temperature is equal to or less than a predetermined time, on the basis of a detection result of the pressure detection sensor 4. |
