PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing low polymerization degree cellulose ether having little yellow discoloration and to provide a cellulose ether manufactured by the same.SOLUTION: There is provided a method of manufacturing low polymerization degree cellulose ether including at least a process of obtaining alkali cellulose by contacting or mixing pulp and an alkali metal hydroxide solution, a first depolymerization process of reacting oxygen with the alkali cellulose to set a viscosity reduction rate of the alkali cellulose at 10 to 95%, a process of reacting an etherification agent with depolymerized alkali cellulose, a process of obtaining cellulose ether by drying after washing a reaction product with the etherification agent, and a second depolymerization process of contacting hydrochloric acid with the cellulose ether to set the viscosity reduction rate of the cellulose ether at 40 to 99.9%. |
