Provided is a sliding member having bonding strength suitable for an environment in which a heavy load has been applied and having excellent wear resistance. The sliding member (1) comprises: a support layer (2) comprising an iron-based metal material; and a sliding layer (3) comprising a copper-based metal material upon a surface (2a) of the support layer (2). The surface (2a) of the support layer (2) and the sliding layer (3) are non-planar and a sliding surface (3a) formed upon the surface of the sliding layer (3) is non-planar. The sliding surface (3) is formed upon the surface (2a) of the roughened support layer (2), by thermal spraying.
