665,512. Statistical apparatus. REMING- TON RAND, Inc. July 12, 1949 [Sept. 15, 1948], No. 18430/49. Class 106 (i). In a connection unit for a record card-controlled machine comprising three frames supporting push-rods 33, Bowden wires and plungers 34 respectively, each rod 33 has wire-receiving wells. As shown in Fig. 1, the unit is used in a tabulator as described in Specification 555,823, for transmitting the movements of pins 25, which sense the 90- column card shown in Fig. 7 and act on corresponding rods 33, to permutation bars 32, each actuated by a corresponding plunger 34. The three supporting frames are separate from one another and bolted together. Each rod 33 is grooved at its upper end and has a similarly grooved plate 53a, Fig. 4, secured to it to form four wells 53. The plungers 34, arranged in rows each carried by a separate removable frame section 46, pass through diagonal slots and have widened lower ends to be engaged by up to three wires. Fig. 6 shows an arrangement for translating the forty-five column card code of Fig. 8 into the ninety-column code of Fig. 7. A push-rod 33b representing an even digit, when actuated, engages the push rod 33a representing the next lower odd digit and also lifts a lever 78 by a stud 77, the lever then engaging a stud on and thus lifting the " nine " rod 33a. U.S.A. Specification 2,354,549 also is referred to.
