A display device according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a determining unit which determines a display mode, a light generating unit which selectively emits light for 2D or light for hologram 3D, a space light modulating unit which selectively displays a 2D image or a hologram 3D image, and a control unit which controls the selective emission of the light for 2D or the light for hologram 3D in the light generating unit according to the display mode determined by the determining unit and displays the 2D image or the hologram 3d image by modulating the light for 2D or the light for hologram 3D emitted from the light generating unit in the space light modulating unit.
