PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which performs proper focus control, even when a position in the image of an object to be excluded is changed during AF and to provide a method for controlling the imaging apparatus.SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes an optical system, an imaging element 260, a lens position control part 340, and a focus control part 330. The focus control part 330 includes a block setting part 331, a contrast value calculation part 332 calculating block contrast value information, a contrast value storage part 333 storing the block contrast value information of a reference image, a feature amount calculation part 334, an effective block determination part 335 acquiring effective block information, an effective block information storage part 336 storing the effective block information of the reference image, an AF area setting part 337 setting an AF area from the effective block information of the reference image and an input image, and a contrast value decision part 338 deciding an image contrast value from the AF area. |
