PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging device and an imaging method that enable a highly accurately in-focus image to be photographed even to a subject in which a velocity abruptly varies.SOLUTION: An imaging device taking a photograph by performing focus detection on the basis of an imaging plane phase difference method comprises: a photographing section (201 and 203) that takes a photograph of the predetermined number of frames as driving a photographing lens; a storage section (205) that temporarily stores image data on the predetermined number of frames taken by the photographing section; a focus detection section (201 and 203) that detects a focus position of a photographing lens every time the photograph is taken by the photographing section; a calculation section (203) that calculates a movement velocity of a subject on the basis of the focus position every time the focus position is detected; a photographing lens drive section (102) that drives the photographing lens at a velocity of in accordance with the movement velocity of the subject; and a selection section (203) that selects image data having an image most focused from the image data on the predetermined number of frames stored in the storage section.
