摘要 Oxygenated organic compounds, especially aldehydes and alcohols are made by reacting olefins, obtained from CO+H2 in the presence of a fluidized synthesis catalyst at about 300 DEG C., with CO+H2 in the presence of a carbonylation catalyst. The olefinic synthesis product contains about 80 per cent olefins, even within the C10-C20 range, mainly of straight-chain type, and can be used directly for the reaction to give aldehydes, especially with cobalt catalysts at about 120-200 DEG C. In an example, the synthetic olefinic product with a reduced catalyst comprising cobalt, thoria, and magnesia on infusorial earth suspended therein is treated with water gas at 155 DEG C. and 150 atmos. After 50 minutes, temperature and pressure are lowered, the product flushed with hydrogen, and hydrogenated at 190 DEG C., and 150 atmos., to yield alcohols. Specification 640,115 is referred to.
