摘要 555,742. Metal-working presses. ABBEY, A. (Bliss Co., E. W.) March 2, 1942, No. 2757. [Class 83 (iv)] Also in Group XXIV] Metal-working presses of the type in which the crank shafts extend from front to back have a built-up frame with a crown provided with a cover and with side plates that enclose the press actuating mechanism and carry deflector plates whereby thrown oil is deflected back into a receptacle formed in the upper part of the slide. The side plates also carry stops that actuate a stripper. The frame comprises a base for supporting the dies, side sections 2 carrying the guides 59, and a crown 3 with depending parts 4 to engage the side sections and cross beams 6 that support the bearings. The frame is held together by tie bolts, not shown. The press is driven by a motor 19 pivotally mounted at 22 an adjustable brace 24 serving to tension the driving belt for the flywheel 18 connected to the shaft 17 through a clutch and brake unit 25, 26 which may be as described in U.S.A. Specification 2,009,031. A pinion 29 on the shaft 17 drives gears 11, 14 (the latter through an idler 30) on shafts 9, 12 having pinions 10, 13 which may be in different planes. The pinions drive gears 33, 34 on the crank shafts mounted in bearings 41 on the lower side of the cross beams to facilitate removal of the crank shafts. The gears have ribs 39, 40, Fig. 9, that fit closely the sides of a crank web to which the gear is directly secured by bolts 35 thus reducing tension of the shafts. The cranks are connected to the frame slide 50 by connecting rods 42 pivoted by screws 44 having nuts 46 rotatable in housings 51 secured to the slide and rotatable by gearing 54, 58 secured to the slide and rotatable by gearings 54, 58 from a motor, not shown, carried by the slide for stroke adjustment. Side plates 63, 64 on the crown, conceal the crank mechanism, carry inclined plates 65 that deflect out into a receptacle formed by upstanding parts 61, 62 of the slide. Screws 69 carried by the side plates adjustably locked by nuts 70 engage bars 67, mounted in slots in the slide, at the top of the up stroke to actuate stripper rods 68. The top of the crown is closed in by a cover 78 fitting inside an upstanding flange 79 that prevents oil leakage. An aperture 78a in the case contains an air filter pad. The press head is balanced by cylinders 71, 72 carried by it and working over pistons with hollow ported rods 73 fixed to the crown and connected to a compressed air supply. Oil from the bath on the slide 50 is pumped through a filter and delivered in excess to the points at which lubrication is required, excess oil being returned to the bath by the plates 65 and by corresponding deflectors formed on the side walls of the crown. The crown has an extension 80 into which some of the driving gears dip. Specification 434,633, [Group XXIV], is referred to.
