An In-plane switching mode LCD and a fabrication method thereof are provided to ensure personal security of a user by selectively implementing a wide viewing angle mode and a narrow viewing angle mode. A gate line and a data line(115) intersect each other on a first substrate, and define red, green, blue and viewing-angle control sub-pixel regions. A thin film transistor is formed at an intersection of the gate line and the data line. A first pixel electrode and a first common electrode alternate each other at a predetermined interval in the red, green and blue sub-pixel regions. A second pixel electrode is formed in the viewing-angle control sub-pixel region. A black matrix(122) is formed as a metal layer on the second substrate at a location corresponding to a boundary of the sub-pixel regions and the thin film transistor. A second common electrode corresponds to the second pixel electrode on the black matrix. |
