670,487. Dry contact rectifiers. WESTING- HOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO., Ltd., PETER, L. H., JENKINS, A., and GARROD, K. A. Oct. 12, 1949 [Nov. 12, 1948], No. 30584/50. Divided out of 670,421. Class 37. [Also in Group XXXV] A dry contact rectifier, e.g. for use as an A.C. voltage surge suppressor consists of rectifying elements comprising a single base-plate 1 coated on one side with a layer of a semi-conducting material, e.g. selenium, on which is superposed a counter electrode layer divided into two separate semi-circular areas 2, and a semicircular copper contact member 3 with a terminal 4 is placed on each area 2, the assembly thus formed being wholly or partly enclosed in an insulating casing 5 which maintains the contact members 3 against the counter-elec. trodes 2. The casing 5 consists of resilient material such as rubber or insulating plastic preferably as a cylindrical cup 5 sealed by a cap 6, the whole being consolidated by heat and pressure; or the rectifier is inserted into a rubber casing, which is thereby stressed to press the contacts 3 on to the counter-electrodes 2. Specification 670,421 is referred to. |
