The invention relates to a device (10) for processing banknotes, and to a corresponding method. The device (10) comprises an input compartment (22) for manually inputting banknotes, at least one output compartment (36a-e) for outputting banknotes, and a conveying system (24, 34, 44, 54) configured to convey banknotes from the input compartment (22) to the at least one output compartment (36a-e). The device (10) further relates to a mechanical interface (46a, b; 56a, b) for detachably connecting a cartridge (70a, 70b) for banknotes to the device (10). The conveying system (24, 34, 44, 54) is further configured to convey banknotes from a cassette (70a) that is detachably connected to the device (10) by way of the at least one mechanical interface (46a, b; 56a, b) to the at least one output compartment (36a-e), or to convey banknotes from the input compartment (22) to a cartridge (70b) that is detachably connected to the device (10) by way of the at least one mechanical interface (46a, b; 56a, b). |
