发明名称 Improvements in bombardment induced conductivity devices
摘要 676,425. Discharge apparatus; manipulating particles. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO., Inc. Nov. 16, 1948 [Dec. 4, 1947], No. 29783/48. Addition to 676,411. Classes 39 (i) and 39 (iv). [Also in Group XL (b)] A solid insulating body producing discrete impulses of current under the impact of radiation (including X and y rays as well asα, p particles, electrons and mesons) is subjected to an alternating voltage field or is made so thin and the direct voltage field made so high that a space charge effect is avoided. The insulating body is preferably a single crystal of diamond having electrodes as disclosed in the parent Specification. It is suggested that electrons released from atoms may enter the field of foreign atoms or imperfections in the crystal and form a space charge, so that an alternating voltage of, e.g., 20 cycles/second across the crystal will reverse the movement of electrons and tend to remove the space charge. Similarly a very intense direct voltage field will tend to overcome the field of the imperfections. As shown in Fig. 9, a hot cathode emits electrons which are modulated by a grid 49 and pass to an anode 47 constituted by a crystal whose conductivity changes in accordance with the electrons striking it; an alternating field is provided by source 52 and a source 54 acts somewhat as the normal anode voltage source; the amplified output is taken from 50. In Fig. 6, the cathode rays from 21 are modulated in intensity by source of signals 28 to impinge on the crystal 20 and provide an amplified output; the cathode-rays may be modulated in deflection to hit or miss the crystal, which thus acts as a pulse generator, Fig. 7 (not shown).
