Compatible soluble non-frosting styrene-oil interpolymers are prepared by carrying out the reaction between styrene and an unpolymerized frosting drying oil in the presence of a solvent consisting of or comprising a monocyclic alpha terpene. Specified oils are raw or isomerized oiticica and tung oils. The preferred terpene is dipentene. Solvents with which the terpene may be admixed are aromatic and/or aliphatic hydrocarbons, e.g., xylol and mineral spirits. The process may be carried out under reflux and whilst blowing air through the mixture. The styrene and the solvent may be added in portions during the course of the reaction. The products are useful in the manufacture of rapid-drying paints, e.g., low temperature stove enamels, motor car finishes, electrical insulating materials, adhesives, printing inks, moulded compositions and laminated materials. Examples are given. Specification 573,809, [Group IV], is referred to.ALSO:Compatible soluble non-frosting styrene-oil interpolymers are prepared by carrying out the reaction between styrene and an unpolymerized frosting drying oil in the presence of a solvent consisting of or comprising a monocyclic alpha terpene.
