<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate changes in speed of an intermediate transfer belt when entering a transfer nip of a transfer material or exiting from the transfer nip of the transfer material more quickly, to prevent occurrence of image degradation.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: an image carrier; an endless intermediate transfer belt which is arranged opposite the image carrier and moves endlessly on a plurality of rollers; transfer means which includes a transfer roller that faces one of the rollers via the intermediate transfer belt and comes into contact with a top surface, which is an outside surface of the intermediate transfer belt, to form a transfer nip, and transfers an image carried on the imager carrier and transferred on a top surface of a belt image carrier to the transfer material held in the transfer nip; moving speed measuring means for measuring moving speed of the intermediate transfer belt; and force applying means which applies force to the intermediate transfer belt in a direction where the moving speed of the intermediate transfer belt measured by the moving speed measuring means coincides with a predetermined moving speed.</p> |
