The skimmer has a hollow cylindrical housing (1) that includes a supply line (2) connected to a suction pump and fixed on a stand (3). A removable cup-shaped filter (4) is arranged inside the housing. A tube-shaped float (5) is provided on the filter, whose upper edge (6) is formed with a collar (7) and an inlet opening (12). The float is lighter than water such that the the upper edge or the collar is maintained at the level of water surface. An animal exit (11) is provided at the bottom of the filter and located corresponding to the inlet opening.
