PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a matrix converter that can continue a power conversion operation even if an AC power supply becomes a low voltage.SOLUTION: According to an embodiment, the matrix converter includes a plurality of bidirectional switches and a control section. The bidirectional switches connect each phase of an AC power supply to each phase of a rotating electrical machine. The control section performs on/off control of a plurality of unidirectional switching elements constituting the bidirectional switches by PWM control before and after performing the on/off control thereof individually by 120° conduction control to control power conversion between the AC power supply and the rotating electrical machine. The control section further includes a driving signal generator for generating a switch driving signal to control each unidirectional switching element within a period of the PWM control by comparing a synthesized signal with a carrier signal, the synthesized signal synthesized by extracting a portion corresponding to the period of the PWM control, from waveform of a current command as a target value of a current flowing to each phase of the AC power supply. |
