PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination light source that facilitates assembling work by preventing a lead wire from interfering with other components during assembly.SOLUTION: An LED unit 1 is provided as an illumination light source, and comprises: a light emitting element; a circuit board 70 provided at a drive circuit for driving a light emitting element; a lead wire 43 for electrically connecting the light emitting element with the drive circuit; and a housing 50 with the lead wire 43 inserted therein and formed of a first opening 55a that is a long opening. The circuit board 70 is formed of a second opening part 71 with the lead wire 43 inserted therein and being a long opening. The first opening 55a and the second opening part 71 are disposed so that a straight line extending in the longitudinal direction of the first opening 55a is three-dimensionally crossed with a straight line extending in the longitudinal direction of the second opening part 71.
