An apparatus and a method for detecting a trouble of a BLDC motor driver are provided to determine the trouble of the BLDC motor driver based on a driving speed of a motor and a trouble state time counted by a microcomputer. A speed output unit produces a driving speed of a BLDC motor. The speed output unit includes a sensor unit(130). The sensor unit senses the light passing through slits connected to the central axis of the BLDC motor. A BLDC motor driver(110) applies the driving signal to the BLDC motor. A count unit(101) receives a trouble signal when the BLDC motor driver is overheated and counts the trouble state time. A determining unit(102) determines the trouble of The BLDC motor driver or BLDC motor based on the trouble state time and the driving speed of the BLDC motor.
