<p>An awning has a chassis 2 which can be normally attached by an adaptor (4, Figure 1A) to the inside of the boot lid 1 of a car, or similar vehicle. The awning panel 3 can be rapidly deployed substantially horizontally to provide shelter from the elements, especially rain. The chassis 2 may be in the form of a housing and attachment means 13 may be in the form of hooks or magnets. The awning may have and adaptor 11 providing a fastening which facilitates retrofitting to an existing vehicle. The chassis 2 may be provided with means to attach to the adapter which may be in the form of a dovetail fitting (10, 12 Figure 1E, 1F). The awning may be in the form of a roll and when deployed the roll may be biased to retract the awning panel 3. Preferably the awning is canvas and may have a support structure. Also claimed is a vehicle having a boot lid and an extensible awning.</p> |
