Provided is an apparatus for recording content, which includes: a configuration information storage unit which stores configuration information of at least one content playing device; and a configuration information managing unit which sets the encoding method of the content based on the configuration information of the content playing device stored in the configuration information storage unit. The configuration information managing unit identifies the content playing device connected to the apparatus for recording the content and sets the encoding scheme of the content according to the configuration information of the identified content playing device.
