Method for detecting obstacles in the path of a vehicle by means of an ultrasonic sensor

The method involves arranging an ultrasonic sensor (4) on the vehicle (1) at a predetermined height (H) from bottom (3) of travel path (2). The amplitude (A) of reception signal (E) with respect to running time (t) is detected by ultrasonic sensor, after the transmission of ultrasonic signal (6). The reception signal of sensor, is evaluated for detecting the obstacle (5). The amplitude of reception signal over running time is monitored. The obstacle detected in travel path is displayed, if a significant reduction (delta A) of amplitude is detected within a preset time window (T).
