The present invention relates to an apparatus for handling a high level waste form storage canister, comprising an external body (10) performing an ascending and descending operation; a tongs member (20) hinge-coupled to the external body (10) and having a contact transfer unit (21a); and a cam structure (30) arranged within the external body (10), allowing the contact transfer unit (21a) of the tongs member (20) to come into contact therewith, and inducing the tongs member (20) to perform an orbiting operation when the external body (10) ascends and descends to lift a canister (50) by means of the tongs member (20). That is, the present invention proposes the apparatus for handling a high level waste form storage canister capable of securing stability and enhancing operation reliability by lifting the high level waste form storage canister (50) including spent nuclear fuel through a mechanical operation without external power to remotely and stably load the canister (50) to a storage container in a hot cell, maintaining integrity while the canister (50) is being remotely handled, and facilitating remote handling of the canister (50), while having a simple structure.
