The invention relates to an apparatus (1) for emptying a load carrier (5) which is loaded with articles, particularly in the form of packages (7), and has a lateral outlet opening (9) for the removal of the articles, the apparatus having a mount for the load carrier (5) and a conveyor (21) for guiding the articles away. The invention relates, in particular, to an apparatus (1) which has a conveying ramp (11) arranged upstream of the conveyor (21), wherein the conveying ramp (11) and the lateral outlet opening (9) of the load carrier (5) can be brought into abutment with one another, the mount and the conveying ramp (11) can be pivoted into a position which is inclined in relation to the horizontal and in which the conveying ramp (11) is in abutment with the lateral outlet opening (9) of the load carrier (5), and the mount and the conveying ramp (11), in abutment with the load carrier (5), can be moved relative to one another, in the inclined position, such that the mount and the conveyor (21) are moved towards one another.
