575,728. Folding-sliding doors. EDUCATIONAL SUPPLY ASSOCIATION, Ltd., and LEONARD, J. W. April 3, 1944, No. 6150. [Class 20 (iii)] In folding-sliding doors, of the type in which leaves fold in pairs, the door head is provided with ramps 11, spring- or weight-loaded so as to engage guide rollers 10 on alternate leaves to thrust the hinge joints outwards on opening, and shaped and positioned so that they will yield to allow the rollers 10 to pass behind them on closing. To allow initial sliding movement on opening, the end pair of leaves 16, hidden in the bay 15, may be chamfered to prevent them opening out flat, or the whole door may have slight spring- or weight-restrained movement when expanded to allow at least one hinge joint to be broken by its roller and ramp before the door strikes the end post. The ramps may be arranged to initiate folding from either end of the door. Bracing cables and power- or handoperated winding drums may be provided. |
