This ultrasonic observation device is provided with the following: a first transformation unit that transforms a time-domain ultrasound signal received by a transmission/reception unit into a frequency-domain signal; a regression-analysis unit that computes a regression expression for the frequency-domain signal outputted by the first transformation unit; an attenuation-correction-coefficient computation unit that computes an attenuation-correction coefficient on the basis of the first-order coefficients of regression expressions for two or more points having different reception depths; an attenuation correction unit that performs an attenuation-correction process on the frequency-domain signal on the basis of the attenuation-correction coefficient computed by the attenuation-correction-coefficient computation unit; a second transformation unit that transforms the attenuation-corrected frequency-domain signal outputted by the attenuation correction unit into a second time-domain signal; and an image-data generation unit that generates ultrasonic-image data on the basis of the second time-domain signal.
