The present invention relates to a rechargeable battery which improves safety by maintaining a short circuit condition when an internal pressure is greater than a critical pressure due to overcharge and the like. For an example, disclosed is a rechargeable battery which includes an electrode assembly; a case which receives the electrode assembly; a cap assembly which seals the case and includes a cap plate; and a short circuit member which includes a first short circuit plate which is combined with the cap plate and a second short circuit plate which is arranged on the surface of the first short circuit plate in the direction of the electrode assembly and is combined with the cap plate.
