The method involves warning a rider with active safety functions and/or automatically engaging with a transverse guide of a vehicle (20) during a threatening collision and/or hazard situation along longitudinal direction of the vehicle, and suppressing a request of a transverse guide function for warning the rider and/or automatic engaging with the transverse guide. Active transverse guide functions are deactivated (30) if a delay of the vehicle is reached by brake intervention or exceeds a given delay threshold.
