The arrangement has a condenser (3) i.e. three-phase alternating current (AC) condenser, electrically connected to AC mains (P) by triggering of a semiconductor switch (10). An electro-mechanical switching device (2) is arranged in parallel to the semiconductor switch, so that the switching device electrically connects the condenser with the AC mains in closed switching state. A control device (4) is designed such that the control device automatically closes the switching device according to the conductive switching state of the semiconductor switch. An independent claim is also included for a method for connecting a condenser in a compensation system to AC mains.
