A method and an apparatus for providing an icon guide are provided. An electronic device may designate an icon in a guide setup mode according to a primary user input, and connect content to be provided as the guide to the designated icon to the icon to set the guide. The electronic device may display a screen including the icon to which the guide is set after the guide setup mode, and play the content for the icon to which the guide is set when receiving a secondary user input on the icon to which the guide is set.
