An assembly of diaphragm capsules 16 is mounted on a base 11 that supports a bottom plate 12 for the motion work by means of pillars 14. A projection 17 on the boss of the upper capsule engages an arm 18 on a rock-shaft having a second arm 21 projecting through an opening in the plate 12 and engaging an arm 23 on a spindle 24 carrying a sector 25 meshing with a pinion on a spindle 33 that carries an indicating hand. Backlash is taken up by a hair-spring 29. Axial play d of the spindle 24 would cause a variation of reading without movement of the capsules. To limit this play to the minimum the. pillar 36, supporting the top plate 13 of the motion work, that is located adjacent the spindle 24 is compressible by a screw 43 that passes with clearance through the upper part of a bore in the spindle to engage threads at the lower end. The upper part has circumferentially and axially spaced slots 45.
