[Classes 51 (i) and 51 (ii)] In furnaces heated by radiant tubular elements, the elements are in the form of spirally wound tubes and the goods to be heat treated are passed longitudinally through the space enclosed by the spirally wound tubing. Where two or more sets of tubes are spaced apart horizontally in parallel relation goods may also be passed through the space between the sets of tubes. Fig. 1 shows a furnace with spirally arranged sets of tubes b arranged coaxially each set being fired by gas burners c the combustion products being exhausted at d. A goods conveyer e is arranged within the tubes. Fig. 4 shows a modification with parallel sets of tubes b spaced apart with roller conveyers arranged within the spaces enclosed by the spiral tubes and a roller conveyer e<1> between the tubes. |
